Math reasoning in low-resource languages isn't just about translation—cultural localization of problems changes how models solve them internally, even when overall accuracy stays similar.
This paper introduces DAR-MGSM, the first benchmark for evaluating math reasoning in Dialectal Arabic across five major dialects plus Modern Standard Arabic. The benchmark includes both translated and culturally localized versions of math word problems, revealing that cultural adaptation significantly impacts model performance and internal reasoning patterns.
