AI coding agents are being adopted unevenly across open-source projects, with success depending more on how teams organize human oversight than on agent capability alone—most projects use these tools minimally, and single-developer review is the dominant pattern.
This study analyzes 25,264 pull requests from AI coding agents across 2,361 GitHub projects to understand how developers adopt and manage these tools.
